Racing Appeals Tribunal
The Racing Appeals Tribunal is established under section 90 of the Racing and Wagering Act 2024.
The function of the tribunal is to hear and make determinations of fact from a person/s aggrieved by a decision of a steward or an official of a race club.
The tribunal meets on a needs basis.
Appeals to the tribunal may be made as a result of a decision of the steward, race club or race controlling body to either:
- impose a fine greater than $5,000 or such other amount as may be prescribed
- impose on a person a disqualification or suspension for a period longer than 3 months
- impose on an animal a disqualification or suspension, which also includes a penalty or sanction on a person or
- warn off the person for more than 12 race meetings or
- impose on the person a fine greater than $1,000 or such other amount as may be prescribed, combined with a disqualification or suspension exceeding one month.
An appeal to the tribunal commences once a person (the appellant), aggrieved by a decision, lodges a notice of appeal, and the prescribed fee (200 revenue units), to the secretary of the tribunal.

Appeals Committee
If your grievance does not meet the criteria to appeal to tribunal as described above, you may be eligible to appeal to the Appeals Committee.
Appeals may be made as a result of a decision of the steward or official to either:
- impose a fine less than $5,000 or such other amount as may be prescribed
- impose a suspension or disqualification for a period less than 3 months
- warn a person off from attending a greyhound meeting for less than 12 meetings
- impose a fine of less than $1,000 or such other amount as may be prescribed together with a suspension or disqualification for less than one month.
No right of appeal
Pursuant to section 85 of the Act, no appeal may be made from a decision under any racing rules that either:
- imposes a fine not exceeding $500 or such other amount as may be prescribed amount prescribed by regulation
- concerns the eligibility of an animal to race or the conditions under which an animal can race
- disqualifies or suspends an animal from racing, except where that disqualification or suspension is combined with a penalty or other sanction imposed on a person
- is not appealable under the applicable racing rules.
