Development Proposals on NT Parks and Reserves
The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security has developed a policy setting out processes and considerations for developers of commercial proposals.
There is an increasing demand for developers to work with parks to provide nature-based experiences and opportunities in our parks and reserves.
The Development Proposals on NT Parks and Reserves Policy sets out the processes and considerations for proponents seeking to develop on the NT Parks estate.
This includes joint managed parks, and concepts that have not been sought through standard processes such as Expression of Interest or sponsorship programs.
To support the Policy and ensure development opportunities have streamlined investment and assessment processes, the Department has created a Development Framework and Investment Toolkit.
The Toolkit informs potential investors of the steps and stages to obtain approval for proposed development.

Quotes by Dr Aggie Wegner, Senior Director Commercial & Community Partnerships
“The Parks and Wildlife Commission is dedicated to conserving the natural and cultural values of parks and reserves for public benefit while also supporting high quality nature and cultural based tourism and recreation.
“The policy provides the authorising environment and framework for dealing with proponents during project development on a first come first serve basis.”
This Policy and Toolkit will support the balance between investment and conservation to ensure the Territory remains a ‘must see’ and ‘must return to’ destination.
