Alice Springs Desert Park’s Nature Theatre star, the black-breasted buzzard, has cracked the internet and emu eggs with just one stone.  This video was posted on the 20th January 2025 and has had over 70million views globally!

The Alice Springs Desert Park's Nature Theatre Free-Flying Bird Show continues to captivate audiences with a spectacular wildlife experience unlike any other. Set against the stunning backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges, the show features a host of incredible birds native to Central Australia, demonstrating their natural survival skills in a thrilling display of hunting and foraging.

One particular cast member of the show, the Black-breasted Buzzard, has recently reached international fame. A video of the raptor cracking open an emu egg using a small rock to break the tough shell has gone viral, amassing over 70 million views on social media. The video’s caption explains:

"The Black-breasted Buzzard displays instinctive behaviour to crack and get into emu eggs when they come across an unprotected nest. Since the eggs are too tough to break with their feet and beaks alone, they use small rocks which they throw at the eggs. Once the eggs are cracked, they can indulge in a protein-packed meal!"

The Nature Theatre Free-Flying Bird Show runs daily at 10:30 am during the summer (1 November to 28 February) and at both 10:30 am and 3:00 pm during winter (1 March to 31 October).

Don’t miss the chance to see this incredible display in person at Alice Springs Desert Park or catch the viral BUZZard moment online!
