NT Parks and Wildlife are now recruiting people to join in the fun. Volunteer as a Campground Host today!

Are your winter plans looking a little dreary?

Do you long to feel the red dirt under your feet or swim through tropical waterfalls?

Perhaps you just like chatting up a storm with your fellow travellers?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, perhaps it’s time you joined the NT Parks and Wildlife Volunteer Campground Host Family.

Our Volunteer Campground Host season runs April to September, so come December all our hosts are back at home and all our Park Rangers are missing them terribly. This past festive season, we had to rely on technology to get together once more for a little Christmas reunion!

Our Volunteers team travelled around our participating parks hearing just how much our park rangers appreciate the work of our Volunteer Campground Hosts and are eagerly waiting the day they come flooding back on 2025. Which is why we are recruiting once more…

If you are a self-sufficient camper who enjoys meeting other travellers, you could be the NT Parks and Wildlife’s next Volunteer Campground Host!

What’s in it for you?

  • Immerse yourself in ancient, picturesque landscapes and camp in remote wilderness
  • Meet fascinating travellers from all walks of life
  • Enjoy plenty of free time for exploration and relaxation
  • Receive an annual Parks Pass
  • Not only do you get free camping while you’re hosting, but you also earn 1 free night camping for every day you volunteer to use at any of our NT Parks & Wildlife campgrounds
  • Enjoy free entry into Alice Springs Desert Park and Territory Wildlife Park (Darwin)

What you’ll do:

  • Welcome campers, offer visitor information & be a friendly point of contact
  • Help maintain campground amenities
  • Liaise with Park Rangers & report any issues

When and Where:

  • Our season runs April – September with some of our northern sites opening a little later depending on the previous wet season.
  • We have 9 participating campgrounds spread across the NT varying in scenery, weather and degrees of remoteness so you can choose your own adventure!
  • Hosts typically volunteer 4-5 hours a day, 6 days a week for a minimum of 3 weeks, however some of our busier parks such as Litchfield National Park and Karlu Karlu/ Devil’s Marbles Conservation Reserve are now offering shorter placements as well.

To find a list of campgrounds and position descriptions, go to the Northern Territory Government website.
