Sending a heartfelt thanks to our hosts of 2026

Published

NT Parks and Wildlife would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our 2026 volunteer campground hosts and caretakers for another outstanding season.

From the beginning of May through to the end of September, our friendly hosts donned their welcoming smiles and distinctive blue vests to become tourism ambassadors in some of the Northern Territory's busiest campgrounds.

Volunteer campground hosts and caretakers play an important role in helping to keep campgrounds clean, tidy and welcoming. Most importantly, they provide visitors with the information they need to enjoy a safe, memorable and rewarding holiday experience.

Contributing between one and 14 weeks of their own time, our 2026 hosts formed a dedicated team whose efforts were greatly appreciated by both visitors and park rangers. Their support allows rangers to focus on critical land management, conservation and visitor management activities during the busy dry season.

Campground hosting is also a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to explore some of the Territory's most iconic destinations. Hosts volunteer for a maximum of 4 hours each day, leaving plenty of free time to enjoy their surroundings.

With 9 host campgrounds located across 7 parks and reserves, there is plenty of variety to keep even the most seasoned traveller entertained.

If spending the winter months of 2027 volunteering in beautiful Northern Territory parks and reserves sounds like the perfect addition to your travel plans, we'd love to hear from you.

If you're a Northern Territory local based in Darwin, Alice Springs or surrounding areas and have a week or 2 to spare over the cooler months, we'd love to hear from you.

Several of our parks can accommodate shorter hosting placements, making it a great opportunity to enjoy some time in nature, meet travellers from around Australia and around the world, and share your local knowledge. You'll be surprised how much visitors appreciate tips from someone who knows the Territory well.
