Privacy - Northern Territory parks booking system

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality is committed to protecting our customers' privacy. We understand that visitors and users of online booking systems are concerned about the security and confidentiality of the personal information they provide.

Personal information is managed in accordance with the department's Privacy Policy PDF (321.6 KB) and the Information Privacy Principles under the Information Act 2002 (NT), which govern how personal information is collected, used, and protected. Our practices ensure that information is collected only when necessary, used appropriately and managed securely.

Collection of information

The department collects the information customers provide in the online booking system to manage camping, walking trail and parks pass bookings and receipting, as required by law, and to support park rangers in ensuring compliance with the current booking requirements.

The department is authorised to collect this information under the Parks and Wildlife Commission Act 1980, Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976, Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-Laws 1984, Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Regulations 2001, Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Land, Sanctuary and Marine Park Act 1981, Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park Act 1989, Djukbinj National Park Local Management Committee (Djukbinj Board) Regulations 1997, Barranyi (North Island) Local Management Committee Regulations 1992, Tnorala Local Management Committee Regulations 1993, and Keep River National Park Local Management Committee 1992.

Some information may be given to other Northern Territory Government departments for the purposes of emergency response. Customer information will not be disclosed to any other parties without the individual's consent unless authorised or required by law.

Use of collected information

When customers use the booking service we record the following information:

  • name
  • address
  • contact details (telephone and/or fax number, email address)
  • transaction history such as past booking information
  • vehicle registration number/s (for vehicles used while in a park or reserve; this is used for emergency purposes only).

The information provided by our customers will only be used for the purposes for which it was collected and will not be disclosed to third parties without the individual's consent or unless required by law.

For example:

Some information may be given to and/or accessed by Northern Territory Government to process payments.

Security

We have security measures in place to protect the information customers send us against loss, misuse and alteration. These security measures ensure the privacy of information while it is transmitted through the internet.

In addition, servers are housed in secure facilities with access restricted to authorised personnel.

This site contains links to non-Northern Territory Government websites. The department is not responsible for the privacy or security practices or the content of such websites. You should check their privacy statement before giving them information.

Cookies

For security purposes a cookie is placed on a customer's computer for the duration of a session. These cookies are used for session management purposes and do not contain any personal detail. Periodically they can safely be deleted with no effect on future sessions.
