Access to information

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality plays a central role in driving economic development across the Northern Territory. We support tourism, hospitality, events, parks and wildlife, licensing and community programs that benefit Territorians and visitors alike.

We are committed to transparency and accountability. This means making government-held information available to the community in line with the Information Act 2002 and Information Privacy Principles.

Each year the department publishes:

• a description of information our agency holds
• whether the information may be inspected by the public under another Act
• whether it may be purchased by the public or is distributed free of charge to the public
• how the information may be inspected or obtained.

This information is released in a table and is identified in the statement of information.

Freedom of information requests

Under the Information Act 2002, you can request access to government held information, including personal information, unless releasing it would be contrary to the public interest.

You may apply to:

• access government information
• seek an internal or external review of a decision
• request a waiver or reduction of fees.

Before lodging a freedom of information requests (FOI) application, find out for publications such as annual reports, which may already contain the information you need.

How to apply for FOI

You can also submit an application to waive or reduce fees, if you can give financial or other reasons for the waiver or reduction.

You will receive notice within 30 days of the department's decision to release the information.
