Tourism
Tourism is a fundamental pillar of the Territory's economy and contributes across a range of industries. Tourists arrive in the Northern Territory and spend money on attractions, meals and accommodation - leading to broader economic benefits. Improvements in tourism products and services enhance the Territory's liveability and enjoyment for residents, while encouraging visitation and spend in the regions. Tourism no doubt brings tremendous economic value through visitor spending, but it is also an important source of job creation.
Tourism NT subscribes to and conducts economic and industry monitoring that covers key performance indicators such as the value of tourism to the Northern Territory economy and the stability of the Territory's tourism industry through the number of tourism businesses.
The Northern Territory’s tourism industry strategy 2030 sets the direction of tourism in the Territory for the next 10 years.
The successful implementation of the Strategy could see total visitation to the Northern Territory reach 2.8 million by 2030, with an associated visitor spend of $5.3 billion.
Total holiday visitation is expected to reach a target of 1.4 million trips by 2030, generating a spend of $3.0 billion in holiday visitor expenditure.
